On The Run

Fall Tour

Sunday, October 12, 2008

Tour Leader: Al Berry

Number of Model A's: 6, plus a 52 Chevy Pickup and

a '48 Merc convertible.

Attendance: Bruce and Jan Gertzkis, Bill and Dot Janke

and their three guests, Judy & Joe Valentine, Jack and Margaret Dabrusin, Jerry and Sandy Levine, George Tompkins and

Gwen, Russ and Gail Gillespie, Randy and Judy Faurot,

Rich Dame, Ernie Martin and myself (riding with Ernie).

The weather could not have been any better. When we met at the Newburgh Mall it didn't look like we were going to have

much of a turnout. However, with five cars arriving just before 10:00 am we had ourselves a caravan and set out up Route 52 towards Ellenville.

The temperature warmed up considerably, and by the time we reached the lookout above the Nevelle Hotel it was getting near 60 degrees.

We didn't lose anyone going up the mountain and we stopped to enjoy the view and take a few pictures. After 15 minutes we headed out for Monticello where we were meeting Rich Dame with his '30Tudor at the Home Depot parking lot. When we arrived Rich was gassing up, and after a few minutes we continued through Monticello and headed down scenic Route 42 towards Port Jervis and the Erie Hotel for lunch. We arrived at the quaint Eric Hotel around noon, the tables were set and waiting for us. Jerry and Sandy Levine met us there with their '56 T-Bird (top down of course). We had a very nice leisurely lunch with plenty of good food and lots great conversation with old and new friends. After lunch we headed out in different

directions for home. Bill, Dotty, George, Russ, Joe and Ernie

(with me as navigator) headed East on Route 209 towards Otisville, then by the prison, out to Route 17K and back to Newburgh. A very nice ride, with no one getting lost and NO Model A breakdowns, a very uneventful trip in that respect.

After a week of trying, but not quite getting the engine in and my

30 CCPU ready for this tour, Ernie was nice enough to let me

ride with him in his 30 Sport Coupe. Really nice car!!

I hope, after four hours of me talking Ernie's ear off, he isn't

deaf in his right ear. THANKS FOR THE RIDE AND THE GREAT

CONVERSATION ERNIE!!!!………………………..AL Berry.
